At Southern Dental Care in Mandurah WA, our philosophy is "preventive dental care along with rehabilitation is not a cost, but an investment in your future wellbeing". This is reflected our active promotion of continuing care for all patients. Our continuing care program aims to:

  • Educate patients on the importance of regular dental visits in ensuring long-term good oral health and general well being.

The Continuing Care System is a practical means of providing this care to patients. It is a policy of Southern Dental Care that we adopt a proactive approach to the maintenance of every patient's dental health. With the consent of patients, telephone calls are made and letters sent to the patient as a confirmation that a preventive treatment is due.

The preventive programs may include periodic examination, cleaning, radiography, relining of immediate dentures and follow up of treatment from a specialist.

 

The Concept of Solo-Prophylaxis

Did you know that due to the complex construction of our teeth, only 4% of bad bacteria is reached with the conventional toothbrush?

The majority of the germs are in the concave interdental spaces (the spaces between each of your teeth) and the fissures of the posterior teeth. These areas are difficult to reach with the conventional toothbrush, meaning specific cleaning is required to effectively keep your teeth healthy. The type of bacteria found in these spaces has been linked to diseases such as cancer. Our concern for our patients long term well being has led us to promote the Solo-Prophylaxis treatment for our patients.

This system uses individually measured interdental brushes, (brushes that clean between the spaces in your teeth) to rid the mouth of this bad bacteria that flourishes in these problem areas by efficiently and effectively brushing them away. These brushes are used just once daily and we have seen huge changes in our patient's oral hygiene since adopting this latest technique from Europe. The key to ridding oneself of this bacteria is to be specifically measured in these spaces to ensure that all the bacteria is brushed away.
